This socio-economic impact assessment examines the health and economic benefits of increased use of probiotics (live microorganisms) within the European Union (EU).
Using established methodologies from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and EU Better Regulation framework, this study estimates the potential cost savings and public health benefits of greater probiotic use across seven health conditions that are prevalent in the EU. Even modest improvements in health outcomes as a result of increased probiotic intake, such as a 1% reduction in disease burden, could translate into billions of euros in annual savings. ...
